Emily Falconbridge challenge: week 6 & week 7...

Due to my somewhat goldfish brain that has appeared as of late I'm having to do a double post to catch up with my Emily Falconbridge 'Deck of you' challenge.
Please don't give me detention for being late: here are weeks 6 and 7...

 [Reverse side of the card]

I used papers from my bit box, Love Elise Stickers and an American Crafts chipboard speech bubble. The speech bubble sticker with the hearts in is by Martha Stewart and the stamps are some of my all time favourites from Magnetic Poetry.

[Reverse side of the card]

These pages were created with some *best* papers by Prima and a bit of cake decorating edging coloured with permanent marker pen. I didn't want to add too much to the page to distract from the photo and the super marvelous tag that the shoes came with. The journalling on the reverse tells the rather fab story of how I came to own the shoes after they had evaded me for so long.

*Phew* I'm just about caught up now I think and feel fairly crafted out after two days of intensive catch up, drop by over the weekend where I've scheduled some more posts so I can catch up on some much needed sleep.

Till soon,

Emily Falconbridge challenge: week 5...

This weeks prompt:

[Week 5: Use some ephemera from your week]

As some of you may know [and those of you who have read the journalling on the reverse of the card will have no doubt picked up that] I have a slight addiction to TK Maxx.
It is a happy place for me to while away the hours perusing the whoopsed section. It's like a jumble sale but with easy parking and regular opening hours.
For those of you who are wondering what 'whoopsed' is - it's clearance stock, named 'whoopsed' as the clearance stuff in Asda is usually accompanied by a reduced sticker which is labelled 'whoops'. Whoopsed therefore is the plural of 'whoops'.
I'm glad we cleared that up.
So my ephemera was a tag from a recent jaunt to the land of whoopsed, where lo and behold they were having a mega super whoopsed clear out. It was very nearly all too much. I did have to have a small sit down on my return home to recover from the overload.
Stay tuned for another 'Deck of me' card coming your way super soon.

Emily Falconbridge challenge: week 4...

[This weeks prompt was 'a symbol you love']

TA plain cardstock background was covered with Prima papers from the Pulse collection, the bracket stamp is Sasafrass Lass and there is a bit of Cosmo Cricket lurking in there too. Guess where these bits came from? Yes the marvelous and ever expanding bit box. Another project completed and assigned to the *best* category. The asterisk is Scenic Route which I left naked and covered with glossy accents to add a bit more dimension to the page.

As indicated by the journalling on the back of the card I hear-by give you my definition of the words I generally assign an asterisk to, admittedly not necessarily as a footnote, although they are at the bottom of the page...
*Best*. Noun. Something which has been saved, treasured and ooh and ahh'ed over for a long period of time. Something which takes a great deal of willpower and confidence in ability to use.
*Stuff*. Noun. Generic term meaning anything at all. Can encompass home wares, beautiful objects or handmade items to name but a few.

Emily Falconbridge challenge: week 3...

This week's prompt was 'I am'...
The phrase 'bubble head' has stayed with me since Christmas day 2010 when I decided that curly hair was the way forward in the style stakes. The process of setting your hair in rollers has a distinct tinge of nostalgia about it and my hair always feels more 'done' when it's styled like that.
However Mother dear referred to me as bubble head, hence, 'I am a bubble head'...

The base kraft card was printed on using bubble wrap coated with gesso, the letter stamps are Making Memories, rub-on cross stitches by Martha Stewart and the 'a' from an alphabet sticky tape by POP.
So far I'm up to date with this challenge, keep checking back and feel free to shout at me if I fall behind.

Emily Falconbridge challenge: weeks 1 & 2...

Some of you may remember waaaaayy back in 2007 Emily Falconbridge started a challenge based on a class she had taken called 'a deck of you' where each week a prompt would be posted to inspire people to create a mini journal page on a deck of cards. Well waaaaayy back in 2007 I decided that I would like to do this challenge, it was on a small scale, I had just kind of started with the whole art journal / scrapbooking / altered art thing and I found Ms. Falconbridge's blog very inspirational.
I even got as far a purchasing a rather lovely set of kraft coloured playing cards from Muji.
Then what happened... all of a sudden it was 2011 and the challenge had been resigned to the UFO cupboard, not literally, but the UFO cupboard in my mind, where tiny men wearing large stripy top hats turn cogs and wheels constantly churning out new ideas. Think Willy Wonka's chocolate factory for crafty ideas. There is an insight into my brain!
Now it is 2011 and I have made some resolutions that you may have read about concerning completing projects and using up my bit box, an ideal partnership for this weekly challenge.
So here we go, weeks one and two combined, I'm even up to date...

[This is the box that I am going to keep all my playing cards in, it was a Maya Road blank box that I was saving for 'best'. This counts as best].

[The 'Fabric of life' fabric tag came off some clothing and I was, again, saving this for 'best'].

[Week 1: Something you are proud of... Front and reverse of the card]

[Week 2: What is powerful to you?]
[The journalling was mounted onto the reverse of the tag that came with my new set of underwear].

[All the bits so far, stacked up together].

I'm keeping the font for the journalling the same throughout to give the deck a sense of cohesion.
Join me each Wednesday to see the next installment, I've promised myself that Wednesday with be one of my challenge days.
Till soon enough,
